Seconds Servings will supply 1,200 meals in the vacation town every Friday
After pledging earlier this month to serve 10,000 meals a week to furloughed and unemployed hospitality workers in Houston, local food rescue organization Second Servings is adding a meal distribution site in Galveston. The vacation town’s hospitality industry has been hard hit by shutdowns to stem the spread of coronavirus.
Second Servings is partnering up with the Galveston Restaurant Association to help feed workers affected by the coronavirus as part of its “Dinner’s On Us” program. The plan is to distribute 1,200 meals in Galveston, prepared by Hess’ Food Services team. Volunteers will hand out the food at a drive-through set up in the parking lot of Mario’s Seawall Italian Restaurant every Friday from 11 am. to 2 p.m. That restaurant is located at 628 Seawall Boulevard in Galveston.
The Galveston expansion is in addition to Second Serving’s Dinner’s On Us distribution site in downtown Houston, where 10,000 meals will still be available for furloughed and unemployed hospitality workers every week. Find the meals on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Lam Parking Lot, which is located at 702 Avenida De Las Americas.
